Benito Mussolini declared war on France on 10 June 1940, however, Italy was not prepared for war and the Italian armed forces have made little impact during this invasion, in fact, the Italians amounted 6,000 killed or wounded, while the French put the total at 250 at the end of the war.
During this invasion, 9 French soldiers were tasked to defend the Pont Saint-Louis and not let the enemy. These soldiers fought heroically 9 5000 Italians, they resisted for a week (June 18 to 28) and managed to kill and injure 700 Italians during this battle called the Battle of the St. Louis bridge
